This New Year develop commitments for 2008 instead of resolutions. Many times resolutions are forgotten about after the January 31st. By making commitments you will be more determined to achieve these goals because they will be things you want to achieve and need to achieve. These commitment are things you can do throughout the year to improve your life. |

I am not a fan of New Year's resolutions. According to a telephone study conducted by Opinion Research Corporation , more than 75% of U.S. adults, 18 years and older, plan to make one or more New Year's resolutions for 2008. This is despite the fact that, of those who made resolutions for 2007, more than half failed to keep them.
Ancient legend foretold of a sacred time of renewal of the human spirit. The Muses of Inspiration granted a blessing on earth and created a window of time when human beings can create a fresh start. During this phase, all the mistakes, regrets, missed opportunities and errors in judgment are purged from the human memory in the primordial fires. Father Time granted a window in which humans could purge the past. By the stroke of midnight on December 31st each year, the past must be completed and all issues must be burned in the fires of regret for the rebirth of spirit to occur.
From food to various cultural practices, one thing is a certainty: No matter where or how we live, the one constant in all our lives is that of a new year, of a time blossoming out into spiritual and physical rebirth. We are the same yet we have refreshed ourselves. As people are different, so are their ways of greeting the new year. Reaching back centuries, a great many of these celebrations involve food to insure a good, strong harvest. Many center around family and children.
